Concierge Recovery Care

Post-Surgical Concierge Private Nursing Care

Kimberly Berman RN is a private post-surgical care concierge nurse who offers one on one, in-home, private post operative recovery care to support you after your surgery.  My typical client is someone having same-day, out-patient surgery for cosmetic, orthopedic or oral surgery for which you will have gone under twilight or general anesthesia and will be unable to care for yourself in the hours and days after surgery. Additionally, clients who have undergone major surgery with a prolonged hospital stay and who may want or need more care upon discharge to home. Especially, if they live alone or their designated primary caregiver has to work and is unavailable to be a caregiver for the client in the hours and days after a hospitalized discharge.

I am a registered nurse licensed in the state of Florida who is here to provide discreet, high-quality recovery care services in the comfort of your own home, hotel, or rental property. Whether your needs range from transportation to full monitoring, wound and drain care, medication reminders, and light meal prep, I offer several different packages and ala carte options to support you after your surgical procedure. It is never too soon to plan for your recovery and after care. Contact me today to reserve my services and get ready to receive competent, compassionate and personalized post-surgery care that will give you (and your family) peace of mind while you recover.

Why do you need my Concierge RN services for surgical recovery?

Your recovery is just as important as the surgeon you choose to do the surgery. You wouldn’t choose an inexperienced surgeon so why would you choose an inexperienced caregiver for you post operative recovery? My wealth of post-surgical recovery experience as an ICU nurse includes caring for and monitoring patients after cosmetic, open heart, oncology, thoracic, neurologic, spinal and general surgery. Below are just some of the situations in which you may want or need professional care:

Situations when you might need my Concierge RN services

  • You live alone or do not have a capable and willing caregiver
  • You desire to recover in a relaxing environment away from home
  • Your recovery site will be a hotel or rental property
  • You are traveling from outside the area for a medical vacation
  • You are a temporary resident, professional athlete, snowbird or business traveler etc.
  • You desire a recovery in which discretion is of utmost importance

Benefits of Concierge Nursing Services for post-surgical Recovery care

Experience: Kimberly Berman BSN, RN, CCRN has extensive knowledge and experience in pre-operative work up and monitoring, to immediate post-surgical acute care and monitoring straight from the operating room. She is certified by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (CCRN), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), as well as certified in Acute Care Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS). Kim graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing.

Recovery Optimization: Kim’s goal is to optimize your recovery and return you to your normal state of health, mind and strength as quickly as possible. Kim’s experience in healthcare will help promote health and return to wellness but also help you in identifying complications and poor wound healing that will hamper your recovery. Kim will help in management and education of your medical equipment and drains and provide wound care according to your physician’s specifications.

Wellness Support: The hours and days just after any surgery are the most critical when it comes to best outcomes in recovery, but also the most difficult. As your Concierge RN, Kim can help you with your return to independence when you are at your most vulnerable. Having a competent, caring, professional nurse at your side to ease and assist you in your ADL’s – Activities of Daily Living – aka functional mobility, personal hygiene, bathing/toileting, getting dressed and simple meal preparation.

Medication Reminders & Education: Maintaining a medication regimen is extremely important during the recovery phase. The sedation you received during your surgery may make you drowsy post-procedure, be excessively sleepy during the day(s) post-op or feeling like you are in a brain fog from all the sedation and pain medications and are unable to maintain a proper medication schedule for yourself. Managing your pain (and pain medication) is key to recovery optimization. Maintaining your daily prescribed medication schedule prevents possible complications with your other health issues. Kim will provide medication reminders (as prescribed by your healthcare provider) as well as education on the new medications you are taking to reduce the chances of adverse events during your recovery.

Stress & Anxiety Reduction: Studies have shown increased stress and anxiety due to acute or traumatic events such as surgery or medical uncertainty can reduce your body’s ability to heal. Stress and anxiety cause inflammation and decrease cell immunity. Having a knowledgeable, competent and capable caregiver at your side reduces stress and anxiety as you recover. Kim’s calm and compassionate demeanor promote recovery wellness.

Patient Advocacy: As your Concierge RN, Kim will review, follow and insure you understand you discharge instructions from you surgeon. Acting as a “middle person” between the client and staff, or medical personnel at the surgery center, hospital or other facilities. In this role, a concierge nurse focuses on ensuring that medical professionals meet the client’s needs and answer their questions, and that the client adheres to the requirements of their healthcare team.

Transportation: Will you need a driver when discharged? Will you need prescription medication pick-up? Will you need transportation to and from your follow-up appointment? Having your own Concierge RN pick you up from your surgery ensures a seamless handoff of the client as they transition from the surgical care setting to home. Kim is there to review your surgical procedure with the healthcare team, verify discharge instructions and assist you in getting you in and out of the vehicle and safely home. If needed, Kim will utilize a drive-thru pharmacy near your home or recovery destination to pick-up pre-ordered medications. Providing transportation and being present for the first follow-up appointment will give you peace of mind and help in understanding “medical jargon.” It will also prevent your spouse, family member or friend from having to take time off of work or school.

Recommendations: It’s commonly known that when you need a recommendation for a healthcare provider or wellness service you ask a nurse! If you utilize my Concierge RN Services, I will be happy to recommend providers and make the necessary connections for IV hydration, private duty aides (for longer-term needs), physical therapy and nutrition support services. Using multiply modalities in post-surgical recovery greatly improves your recovery outcomes.

Customized Recovery

I have created packages that provide maximum care based on most clients’ needs but many surgeons now require a licensed Registered Nurse to recover their patients for the very important first 24 hours after surgery. Many clients not only appreciate this added peace of mind but also want the nurse to continue beyond the initial 24-hour period. In most cases, the same Concierge Nurse will be with you during the entire service agreement of your recovery. This is not always the case with a staffing company. But this is not a problem with Concierge Recovery Care LLC! I’ll be happy to discuss with you a customized recovery plan that includes a licensed Registered Nurse for 24 hours or more. FAQ

  • How long do clients typically hire you for recovery care?  Depending on the type of surgery and needs of the patient, many surgeons require a caregiver for the first 24 hours. But, based on your specific needs I can be contracted for as little as four hours for transportation and set-up/settle-in to the home, a full day of monitoring and pampered care, or for several days of thorough, overnight care. I can customize my schedule to fit your needs. See my list of packages to get an idea (click here).
  • Where do you recovery clients? Wherever you are! Usually in the client’s home, hotel or rental property. More specifically, my local service area is most of Palm Beach County, Florida and Martin County, Florida. However, for select clients I will provide recovery care outside of my local service area. Contact me (click here) to discuss your special needs.
  • Do you stay overnight? Yes! The first night is a busy one. Frequent icing, medications, hydration, safe ambulation, positioning, insuring rest all while keeping the client comfortable and stress free.
  • Do you only work for specific surgeons? No, but I have been fortunate to recover patients (and be recommended) by so many different surgeons. I am hired directly by you, the client, as an Independent Concierge Post-Surgical Recovery Registered Nurse. With that said, every surgeon has very specific discharge recovery orders and I will adhere to each surgeons written specifications.
  • Do you take insurance?  Unfortunately, No.  My Concierge Nursing Services are a private pay service just like most cosmetic surgery and many elective surgery services.
  • What is your payment, cancellation and refund policy? I require a 50% deposit at time of booking to hold your spot on my calendar. The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to your surgery. The full policy is included in my service agreement which will be provided during the booking process. My payment, cancellation and refund policy are similar to most plastic surgeons’ policies.
  • Do you provide Transportation? Yes. I will pick you up from the surgery center and drive you home after surgery, and to and from your post op appointment if it falls within our contracted time together. If you still need transportation outside of our service agreement, I offer a list of additional services to fit your needs.
  • What should I eat before and after surgery? You can help your recovery BEFORE your surgery with the foods you eat (and don’t eat) so I will have suggestions for you. From my experience many clients don’t have much of an appetite in the early hours after their recovery, but it is very important to eat, and to eat foods that fuel your recovery and to keep nausea at bay. I provide all of my clients with a list of nutritious foods, snacks and even a few recipes for meal prepping so you have ready-to-go meals during your recovery phase!
  • I have heard showering and washing my hair after surgery is difficult, can you help with that? Yes, and Yes! Your first shower will feel awesome, but it will also be exhausting. When your surgeon gives you the approval to shower and wash your hair you will have to be very careful with the incisions, sutures and drains. You must also be aware that the simple act of showering could be physically exhausting, making you lightheaded and put you at risk of falling and injuring yourself and complicating your recovery. Helping you with this is a service that I provide either within our contracted time together or as an additional service dependent of your needs and on your surgeon’s approval.
  • My friend and I are having same day surgery, do you ever recover two clients at once? Yes, I do! Sometimes called “surgery sisters,” recovering two people at once can be a fun way to share in the experience.
  • What else can I expect from your Concierge Nursing Service? As an ICU nurse I bring a critical care and critical thinking background to your recovery care. In addition to managing and monitoring your medical needs I want you to feel well cared for in a space that you can recover with peace of mind. I can handle phone calls and messages so you can rest, meal prep and encourage healthy eating, provide pet care (I love pets!), provide spa like aromatherapy for relaxation as well assistance with toileting and showering. I will also send you in the weeks leading up to surgery a recommended grocery list, medical supplies list and pro tips and tricks to prepare you and help you have a wonderful recovery. I want you to feel that every aspect of your recovery has been thoughtfully planned to promote the best recovery possible for you.
